Last year's Give Miami Day donations enabled SOPA to replace old, battered instrument lockers. This year, we ask you to help us meet a basic necessity of students in the Orchestra program: new instruments.

String instruments are unaffordable for many families. As a public magnet program, Southwood Middle School Orchestra loans violins, violas, cellos and basses to students who need them, whether to participate in class or practice at home. Sometimes even students who own their instruments need a loaner in class.

Delicate by nature as wooden instruments are, after years of use and travel, some instruments in our classroom set have sustained irreparable damage: holes, dents, cracked necks, deep scratches. They are frequently repaired, however some are so badly damaged that repair is no longer an option. Due to the state of many of our instruments, we now have a critical capacity shortage. At approximately $2,000 each, instruments are a major expense for the program. WE NEED YOUR HELP.

Southwood Orchestra students work hard to be routinely recognized among the best student musicians in Florida. Please help us bolster their hard work with instruments that work!
