Why I’m Fundraising for Miami Poetry Club

I’m supporting Miami Poetry Club, a nonprofit that turns blank pages and stages into community by helping writers write, refine, and recite.

MPC is Miami’s multicultural literary home, a space where creativity and connection thrive. They offer consistent free workshops, open mics, and poetry events that make writing accessible for everyone, from first-time poets to seasoned writers. Through these gatherings, MPC creates third spaces for intellect and imagination.

When I moved to Miami over 2 years ago, I searched for place to meet new people and grow my personal writing craft, but what I found with Miami Poetry Club was so much more. Not only did I have people who have changed my life and improve as a writer, I’ve been able to expand by co-hosting events, creating workshop curriculum, and have the opportunity to perform all across Miami-Dade.

Still, for me, there is one most impactful aspect of my involvement with MPC, the growth of the people around me. From people who were nervous to introduce themselves now being able to speak confidently in front of large crowds and people who have never written a poem before to now being published in literary journals, it has been an honor to be any part of their journeys. Right now, we’re raising funds to:

• Expand free writing programs across Miami’s neighborhoods
• Upgrade our audio and event equipment and provide writing supplies
• Build a permanent Writer’s House (Clubhouse) that will be a home for Miami’s literary community to gather, learn, and inspire.

Miami Poetry Club believes that education is liberation and that self-expression can heal, connect, and empower. Together we are solving the communication problem by giving South Florida the tools and confidence to share their stories in real time, in their own language, on their own terms. Every dollar will help us create spaces where every voice feels heard, supported, and celebrated in community.
