Founded in 1997 by Maestra Sebrina María Alfonso in Key West, South Florida Symphony Orchestra (SFSO) is the region’s largest professional orchestra. SFSO enriches Miami-Dade, Broward, and Monroe counties with cultural music experiences, promoting vibrant communities through innovative programming and transformative education. 

The Symphony in the Schools music education program  has impacted over 130,000 students in under-resourced communities. However, a critical need for music education exists in Miami-Dade County Schools. 

Together, we can orchestrate dreams and strike a high note with our future virtuosos, composers, music teachers, and most importantly, give the joy and personal growth that music brings to their lives. 

Our programs celebrate: 

Diversity & Inclusivity: We proudly create a musical space where children can discover their potential, ignite their imaginations, and let their creativity soar, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, abilities, or socioeconomic status. 

School-Embedded Musicians: Through innovative music education approaches such as our School-embedded Musicians, we're creating SFSO Musician Residencies at underserved schools to foster next the generation of musicians and creative thinkers. We also offer a 'Jump Start' program to attract interest in music education among students.

Health & Wellness: Music enriches the soul, supports emotional well-being, and increases self-confidence, making it an essential part of a holistic education. 

After-School Strings Programs / Raising the Curtain: Our after school strings programs create safe spaces for children to learn and grow, removing barriers while supporting their artistic and personal journeys.  

Connectivity & Fun: Music unites people, and we infuse fun and joy into every note played and every lesson learned.

Mission: 

Symphony in the Schools believes in building a brighter future for our community's youth through the magic of music. We provide free concerts to public school children and SFSO School-based residencies with our school-embedded musisians thus enhancing music instruction for Miami-Dade children, one precious note at a time.
