$1,000 match for a new decade of Nu Deco NXT!

As a proud board member of Nu Deco Ensemble, this year I am matching up to $1,000 in honor of the 10th anniversary of Miami's 21st century chamber orchestra! 

As a recovering band and orchestra nerd, I am honored to support Nu Deco's mission is to create transformative musical experiences which inspire and connect by building a collaborative, inclusive and sustainable community of artists, students, and audiences. For our tenth anniversary season, we are fundraising this Give Miami Day to support our Nu Deco NXT programs, which provide young musicians and music professionals with the hands-on educational experiences they need to thrive. Our goal

Nu Deco's 2024 Give Miami Day effort is about empowering Miami’s youth through world-class musical education and career development opportunities. Our Nu Deco NXT education programming transforms students into creators, thinkers, and innovators equipped for a lifetime of creative leadership. Here’s how Nu Deco NXT is building the next generation of 21st-century musicians and production staff:

• NXT Youth Ensemble fosters the musical & career development of Miami’s young musicians grades 7-12 through a focus on 21st Century Performance, Musical Creation, Wellness, and Leadership.
• NXT Internships & Audio/Video Fellowships provide hands-on industry experience in music production, marketing, education, and more.
• NXT Mentorships help undergraduates with opportunities to build technical skill and work experience while supporting young artists’ journeys through direct mentorship
• NXT Writers’ Cohorts & Student Commissions empower young musicians to explore composition and collaboration, working with professional writers to create and premiere original works with a full orchestra.

Our story

Since its inception in 2015, Nu Deco Ensemble has exploded onto Miami’s eclectic musical scene captivating audiences, holistically engaging with its community and fusing innovative, genre-bending orchestral performances and collaborations with the highest levels of musical artistry. Nu Deco is reimagining a fresh vision of what an orchestra can achieve in the 21st century. Created by two of classical music’s most in-demand artists, Jacomo Bairos and Sam Hyken, Nu Deco Ensemble is a flexible and innovative hybrid orchestra that celebrates living composers, reimagines all genres of music, and collaborates with a wide range of diverse musical guests, composers, choreographers, dancers, and mixed media artists.

Recent highlights include exclusive collaborations with Macy Gray, Ben Folds, Jacob Collier, Kimbra, Kishi Bashi, Time for Three, Danay Suarez, Cory Henry, Stephen Marley, Emily King, Bilal, Luke James, Andrew Bird, Tank and the Bangas, Lawrence, Masego, and many more award-winning composers and cross-over artists. The New York Times has hailed Nu Deco Ensemble as a “Chamber orchestra for the 21st century”, Billboard has announced them as “Sonically Spellbinding” and Saratoga Living exclaimed them as “fiery, captivating and refreshingly original”. In October 2019, Nu Deco Ensemble released their first album to include genre-bending collaborations, reimaginings of artists such as Outkast and Daft Punk, and new music by some of today’s most exciting living composers.
