Our Literacy Promotion and Community Initiatives program currently provides bi-weekly French and Creole story reading sessions, "Let me Tell you a Story," for children at the Golden Glades Library. These sessions build vocabulary, imagination, and a love for reading.
The Innovation: The "Stronger in Duos" Literacy Circle
To sustain and expand this impact to adults, we are transforming our literacy outreach into the "Stronger in Duos" Literacy Circle. This initiative leverages the effectiveness of collaborative learning in duos (pairs). This model forms a supportive circle where participants—often peers, mentors, or family members—partner for mutual support, and also promotes autonomy, accountability, and efficiency through shared reading, hands-on STEAM practice, and mentorship.
In 2026, we will expand to:
Kids' Sessions: Monthly story sessions at two library branches.
Adult Sessions: Monthly sessions, delivered via our Mobile Van to partners (like senior residences), focusing on practical skills: literacy training, access to Financial Literacy/Home Economics, and STEAM-related skills (basic computer, food science) connected to our "Triangle de Cuisson" vocational training.
Partnership and Annual Celebration
Our impact culminates with the Intergenerational Duos Event in Spring 2026, celebrating art, culture, and participant accomplishments through shared readings and collaborative STEAM activities.
