$25 for ROXY's 25th Season

As a mom of three, I have had the privilege of seeing firsthand what the performing arts, and ROXY Theatre Group specifically, can do for a child.

All three of my children have been part of the ROXY family, and I have watched them grow in ways that extend far beyond the stage. Yes, they have learned to dance, act, sing, rehearse, and perform. But they have also developed confidence, learned to speak and perform in front of others, work as part of a team, pay attention to the smallest details, accept feedback, show up prepared, and keep going when something is difficult. Those are skills they will carry with them long after the curtain closes.

But one of the things that has stayed with me most came from one of my children, who told me that at ROXY, she had “found my people.”

As a parent, that means more to me than I can adequately express. Our kids need places where they don't just participate, but belong; where they feel seen, accepted, supported, and free to be themselves. ROXY has been that kind of place for my children. They have found friendships, mentors, community, and a sense that there is a place where they fit.

That sense of belonging is one of the reasons I believe so strongly in performing arts education. The arts build skills, certainly, but they also build community. They give young people a place to discover who they are alongside others who encourage them to grow.

And that is why ROXY holds such a special place in my heart.

This year, ROXY is celebrating its 25th season of giving young people in our community a place to learn, create, belong, and shine. But what makes ROXY particularly meaningful to me is its commitment to making those opportunities accessible.

ROXY believes a family's financial circumstances should not determine whether a child gets to discover a love for dance, find their voice, step onto a stage, or experience the confidence and community that come from being part of the performing arts. Through scholarships and other efforts to reduce financial barriers, ROXY works to ensure that children and families who may not otherwise be able to afford classes in dance, theatre, acting, or voice still have an opportunity to participate.

That's why I'm championing ROXY this Give Miami Day.

In honor of its 25th season, we're asking our community to join the 25 for 25 Campaign by giving $25 or more. My goal isn't simply to celebrate what ROXY has accomplished over the past 25 years. I want to help make sure the next child who needs this experience has the opportunity to find it, regardless of what their family can afford.

I've seen what ROXY has given my own children: the skills, the confidence, the friendships, and perhaps most importantly, a place where they know they belong.

I want more children to have the opportunity to “find their people,” too.
