I first learned about Urban Paradise Guild around 2012 when I met Sam Van Leer at an event. His passion for climate action and community volunteer work left a real impression on me. That moment helped spark in me a deeper appreciation for nature and showed me how much impact personal activism can truly have.

I support UPG because their work connects people to Miami and to the planet in a way that the media simply can’t. Our habitat is a core part of what makes Miami special: our lush greenery, our precious waters, our wildlife. UPG fights every day to protect these spaces. Whenever I see a beautiful Atala butterfly, I remember that it was nearly extinct before UPG began planting coontie and helping restore its habitat. That’s the kind of impact this organization has.

I’ve lived in Miami since 2011, and some of my favorite natural places include Bill Baggs and AD Barnes parks. Patch of Heaven Sanctuary, while landscaped, is absolutely stunning. And I love biking or jogging by the bay, it’s one of the best ways to appreciate the beauty we’re fighting to protect.

When it comes to the environment, I care about everything animals, water, trees but I’m especially passionate about protecting and expanding our tree canopy. Miami’s future depends on becoming more walkable and more resilient, and shade is not just comfort, it’s survival. Trees help combat flooding, cool our neighborhoods, and make our communities healthier.

I’m asking for your support to help Urban Paradise Guild continue this important work. All donations up to $11,000 are being doubled, so your contribution goes twice as far. Twenty $25 donations help me get to my goal of $500.

Thank you for supporting a cause that means so much to me and to our South Florida community.
