The Social Cog is a nonprofit organization founded to meet a vital, previously unmet need for independently functioning adults with developmental and learning disabilities. Our mission is to create meaningful connections and a sense of community among adults seeking genuine friendships with like-minded peers.
At the heart of our program is The Three Cog Method - three interconnected components that work in harmony to help our members build and sustain authentic relationships:
An Accepting Peer Group – providing a welcoming community of understanding and support.
Individualized Social Coaching – offering personalized guidance to strengthen social and emotional skills.
Shared Social and Emotional Experiences – fostering growth, confidence, and friendship through real-world engagement.
Together, these elements empower members to connect, grow, and thrive—both socially and emotionally.
Giving Activity
Mission
The Social Cog provides adults with autism and other developmental and social challenges an opportunity to meet others with similar interests and minds by engaging them in a variety of social group activities and providing ongoing social/emotional coaching for participants to initiate further social contacts and independently maintain relationships. As a result of social opportunities and coaching provided through the program, participants develop satisfying relationships with other members, and are able to independently maintain those relationships at various levels. Given the importance of social support networks in defending individuals from stress and contributing to an overall improvement in quality of life, this is an outcome of great consequence not only to participants, but also to their community at large.
