Help Empower the Next Generation of Ocean Advocates: Support the Chef Andrew Scholar Program on Give Miami Day!

At Debris Free Oceans, we believe in nurturing the next generation of environmental leaders -- and that's where our Chef Andrew Scholar Program comes in. Established in honor of the life and passion of Chef Andrew Michael Alessi, this program provides young advocates the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in ocean conservation, community engagement, and zero-waste initiatives. By equipping youth with the tools and knowledge needed to make a lasting impact, we are shaping the future of environmental stewardship in our community.

What is the Chef Andrew Scholar Program?

The Chef Andrew Scholar Program is a one-year internship designed to empower local youth in the fight against ocean pollution. Inspired by Chef Andrew's commitment to sustainability and the ocean, the program offers scholars the opportunity to  engage in educational talks, community cleanups, and awareness campaigns.

Through the program, scholars gain real-world experience in the sustainability sector, build leadership skills, and actively contributing to ocean conservation. They aren't just learning, they're out in the community, making a tangible difference.

Meet Our Scholars

Each year, a select group of dedicated youth is chosen to join the Chef Andrew Scholar Program. These scholars work tirelessly to promote ocean conservation, reduce plastic waste, and educate their community about environmental issues.

This year, our Chef Andrew Scholars, Mackenzie and Nicolas, are already hard at work hosting cleanups, educating the public, and inspiring others to take action against plastic pollution. With your donation, we can ensure that future scholars receive the same opportunities to make a difference.

How Your Donation Helps

Your contribution directly supports the Chef Andrew Scholar Program and helps provide:

  • Training & Mentorship: Scholars receive guidance from experts in sustainability, gaining valuable skills and knowledge that will empower them through their careers.
  • Community Engagement: Donations allow scholars to host cleanups, educational talks, and awareness campaigns that inspire local communities to take action.
  • Professional Development: Through hands-on experience, scholars build the leadership skills necessary to continue their work in environmental conservation beyond the program. Graduates our program have gone on to work for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the American Meteorological Society, Miami-Dade County's Division of Environmental Resource Management, and more.
