Help Us Keep Evelyn’s Red Thread Moving

When we lost our beloved co-founder and Vice President Evelyn Politzer this year, we lost an extraordinary artist, mentor, advocate, and friend.

But Evelyn left something behind that cannot be lost: a red thread connecting artists, creativity, generosity, and community.

She believed in artists. She believed fiber art could bring people together. And she believed that artists deserved opportunities to be seen, supported, and celebrated.

The Evelyn Politzer Red Thread Award carries that belief forward.

This is Evelyn’s legacy in action: one artist lifting another.

This Give Miami Day, your gift to FAMA helps us keep that red thread moving, from artist to artist, from generation to generation, and throughout our Miami community.

Help us honor Evelyn by continuing what she started.

❤️ Give today. Keep the Red Thread alive.

Patricia Calero received the Evelyn W. Politzer Red Thread Award. The inaugural recipient, Calero, was recognized for work that embodies the spirit Evelyn championed. As part of the award, Patricia will receive a solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Americas in 2027, allowing her to share her artistic practice with an even wider audience.

More About the Awards

The Evelyn Politzer Red Thread Award honors the legacy of FAMA co-founder and Vice President Evelyn Politzer, whose passion for fiber art, dedication to supporting artists, and commitment to building community continue to inspire the Fiber Artists Miami Association.

This award celebrates the innovation, craftsmanship, creative spirit, and ability to communicate powerful ideas through fiber art, qualities that Evelyn deeply valued and championed throughout her life. It recognizes emerging artists whose work demonstrates artistic excellence, originality, technical skill, and a meaningful creative vision.

High school students pursuing a college education and future career in textiles or fiber arts are eligible to apply for the Evelyn Politzer Red Thread Award. Students must send a portfolio and letter of intent to fama@fiberartists-miamiassociation.com. Through this recognition, FAMA seeks to support and encourage the next generation of textile artists as they begin their artistic journeys.

The recipient of this award embodies the same spirit of creativity, generosity, community, and artistic excellence that Evelyn championed throughout her life. The Red Thread Award ensures that her legacy continues by inspiring young artists to explore the limitless possibilities of fiber and carry forward the connections that art creates between people, cultures, and generations.
