Celebrating 68 by Giving Back

As I get close to my 68th birthday, I’ve been thinking about the journey that brought me here. I started as a wide-eyed child full of wonder and became an adult who wanted to make a difference. Today I’m grateful for each sunrise, each friendship, and every chance to give back. This year, I’d like to celebrate a little differently. Instead of gifts, I’m inviting you to join me in supporting an organization that is close to my heart.

For 30 years, YES Institute has served young people and families across South Florida. Its mission is to prevent suicide and ensure the healthy development of all youth through powerful communication and education on gender and orientation. Through education, YES Institute helps families, schools, and communities understand one another and creates spaces where young people feel seen, supported, and safe.

My birthday is November 27, and I’m celebrating early through Give Miami Day. During the week of Saturday, November 14, through Thursday, November 19, our whole community comes together to support the local nonprofits that make Miami stronger. My goal is to raise $2,000 for YES Institute by Give Miami Day, Thursday, November 19.

Why this matters to me

I believe every person deserves to feel seen and supported. When we invest in young people by opening doors, building pathways, and creating safe places, all of us benefit.
