As many of my friends know, I am the Director and licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator for Wildlife Rescue of Dade County.  Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and release (back to the wild) the injured, orphaned and/or displaced native wild animals. We provide free educational programs to schools and community organizations, and train, equip, and deploy, worldwide as necessary, personnel to assist local groups in animal rescue after disasters. We also travel around the world to provide training in both basic and advanced wildlife care.  This past year we changed our mission statement to include researching techniques and practices to improve the practice of wildlife rehabilitation

With they money we received last year from Give Miami Day, we were able to upgrade our digital Xray machine, which helps us to diagnose broken bones and find deeply embedded fish hooks.

This image was taken with our new system.  When this turtle first arrived we could easily see the hook in its mouth.  But without our xray system, we would never have seen the other hook which was much deeper.  We were able to remove both hooks and rehab this turtle which was eventually released back to the wild

We also were able to install this new nest platform that was built by local high schoolers and upgrade the cameras on our eagle nest which can be viewed by anybody for free 24-7, around the world.

We were able to continue to monitor the population of bald Eagles here in South Florida and band the new babies to enable us to track and follow them as they grow.

We have a huge mission.  But myself and my staff are all volunteers.  None of us receive any salaried compensation for doing this work.

So , Please, for this years "Give Miami Day," support Wildlife Rescue of Dade County and help us Keep Dade County Wild!
