CWS first opened an office in Miami in 1960 to assist refugees fleeing Cuba during the aftermath of the Cuban Revolution. Since then, CWS South Florida has grown and expanded its programs into Broward, Palm Beach, and Tampa and currently serves newcomers from all parts of the world.

CWS relies on private funds to serve newcomers who
fall outside the limits of federal and state grants. With recent reductions in public funding, several vital programs—such as housing support, case management, and employment services—are now at risk of being cut. These are often the very services that address refugees’ most urgent physical and emotional needs and help them navigate the difficult transition of beginning a new life in the United States. Because these programs are sustained largely through community generosity and volunteer engagement, private support is more critical than ever to ensure that every newcomer has the opportunity to rebuild with dignity and hope.
