Braid & Build is a 42-hour (30 Hours +12 Hour Digital Marketing) hands-on training that turns braiding talent into a real source of income. It is designed for youth aging out of foster care, reentry, and underrepresented adults who need a reliable way to earn sustainable income. In Florida, hair braiding and hair wrapping require no license, making braiding one of the most accessible paths to self-employment. Participants complete 30 hours of braiding artistry, covering sanitation and client safety, braiding fundamentals, braided styles, and hair wrapping. They then complete 12 hours of digital marketing with a marketing specialist: photographing their work, building an online portfolio, using social media, and booking clients. Every participant leaves with a practice kit, a professional portfolio, and a plan to land their first paying clients. No college degree required. Short-Term Learning, Skilled-Up Training, to Develop YOU!

In 2027, Braid & Build will train 8 South Florida participants. Our goals are:

  • At least 80% (10 participants) complete the full 42-hour training.
  • 100% of completers demonstrate sanitation and client-safety standards and at least 3 braided styles on a practice head, verified by instructor skills checklists.
  • 100% of completers build an online portfolio with at least 6 photographed styles and a business social media page.
  • At least 60% book their first paying client within 60 days of finishing.
  • At least 80% report feeling more confident about earning an income, measured by surveys at the start and end of the program.

Participants leave with marketable skills, a professional presence online, and a path to economic self-sufficiency. That means a stable income for young people transitioning to independence and a second chance at earning for those rebuilding their lives.
