After working in the field for over five years as an organizer, and for almost three years at the ACLU of Florida, I know firsthand the impact fundraising can have on our ability to defend and push back against attacks on our civil rights. From the repression of free speech, to undermining our due process, to rigging our political system to benefit those in power, our civil rights are more under attack than ever.

In the midst of these blatantly unconstitutional actions, people often ask me: What difference can one person make?

The answer is clear. We might not be able to change the whole world in one day, but each of us can change the world of just one person and build that impact into something even greater. It grows from a neighborhood, into a city, into a county, and into a state we can be proud to call home. And we keep pushing until every Floridian is protected, valued, and able to live free.
