Why I am a champion for The STARS Miami Project!

There is a major shortage of accessible and inclusive programs for children of all abilities. I realized that 21 years ago when my niece received various diagnoses. Fast forward to 2016 when my own sons were diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Developmental Delay, and Speech Delay at 18 month. Parents and caregivers still did not have many options in Miami. 

In the Summer of 2023, STARS Miami filled that need, fostering a sense of belonging and community. STARS Miami is a “schools out” camp and weekend program, providing children of all ages a place where they truly belong - a safe, supportive, and uplifting environment that celebrates every child. 

I have witnessed children develop socially, foster relationships, create memories, and even start new eating habits. As someone who works with STARS Miami and as a mother. My twins, KalEl and Lucas, thrived over the summer. They tried new foods, made connections with other kids and counselors, and became more independent. Something their teacher and therapists have also noticed. Through this program my sons (and I) found community. STARS Miami has been a true blessing to us and so many other families. 

My goal is to raise $10,000 to send 5 children to STARS Miami's summer camp. For every $1,500 we raise, one child can attend camp free for a month.
