Behind every child who succeeds and every family that finds their footing is a person like you. In our community, non-profits step in where others can’t—providing a lifeline that simply wouldn't exist otherwise. But this work doesn't happen by accident; it happens because you choose to lead. When you give, you aren't just making a donation; you’re building a legacy of change. Put your purpose into action today and create a legacy of change with Youth Environmental Alliance.

The Seed That Grew a Scientist: How 9-Year-Old Olivia Found Her Purpose

Five years ago, a quiet, bright-eyed nine-year-old named Olivia walked into a Youth Environmental Alliance plastics education class. Like most kids her age, she loved nature. But she had no idea that the next hour would alter the course of her young life.

As she listened to the lessons about our fragile oceans and the threat of plastic pollution, something clicked. For Olivia, it wasn't just a science class. It was a calling.

With a heart big enough to share, Olivia didn’t just absorb the knowledge; she felt a profound responsibility to share it. Armed with the confidence and encouragement she received from YEA, she invited YEA to 3 years of her birthday parties to share what she had learned with 20 of her friends.

With the fierce determination only a child can muster, Olivia personally helped lead her peers through three environmental courses, organizing hands-on eco-actions right in her own back yard.

But her heart was set on doing even more. Driven by a deep empathy for the wildlife she learned to protect, Olivia went on to found her very own nonprofit organization. She began sewing and distributing reusable produce bags, single-handedly preventing plastic from ever reaching our oceans.

Today, Olivia is 14 years old. While many teenagers are drifting away from childhood hobbies, Olivia is still by our side. She is still volunteering, still guiding younger children, and still leading with the very same passion that was sparked five years ago.

YEA didn’t just teach Olivia about sustainability. We saw her spark, nurtured her potential, and gave her the wings to fly. Her journey is beautiful proof that children don't have to wait until they grow up to save the world. They just need someone to believe in them.

Help YEA nurture the next generation.

Every day, there are thousands of children in Miami just like Olivia—full of wonder, eager to learn, and ready to protect the beautiful planet they call home. They are just waiting for their spark.
