Seventeen years ago, I became involved with the Clubhouse movement. I could not have known then how deeply this work would become part of my life.
Over the years, I have watched people living with severe mental illness rebuild their lives—find jobs, make friends, gain confidence, return to school, and discover that they have a future filled with possibilities. These are the reasons I continue to do this work. What I have learned over 17 years is that recovery is not one big moment. It is a series of small victories: showing up, making a friend, completing a work task, applying for a job, getting hired, going back to school, taking a step toward independence, or simply discovering that you belong somewhere.
I have also watched families regain hope. Those experiences have changed me and are why I continue to work at The Key Clubhouse of South Florida. It's a passion and an honor.
As CEO, I spend a great deal of time focused on funding, staff, partnerships, and everything it takes to keep our organization strong. But at the heart of it all are the people who walk through our doors, and that is why I still work at The Key Clubhouse.
Today, we are blessed to have two Clubhouse locations—Northside and West Kendall—and more people in our community who need that opportunity. But none of this happens without a community that believes in our members. Our donors are an essential part of that community. Your generosity helps keep our doors open, provides opportunities for employment and education, supports the people who make our Clubhouse a welcoming place to belong, and gives our members the chance to take those important next steps. When you give to The Key Clubhouse, you are not simply making a donation. You are investing in a person’s opportunity to rebuild a meaningful life.
You are helping someone find purpose, reconnect with their community, gain confidence, and discover that their future can be bigger than their diagnosis.
After 17 years, I have seen what is possible when people believe in one another. I will continue to champion for The Key Clubhouse, which is very much a family, and I am asking you to join me. Please give today and help us make sure that when someone walks through our doors, they find hope, opportunity, and a place where they belong. You might just save a life!
