As you all know the Miami-Dade Bald Eagles are dear to my heart. A new season has begun for Rose and Ron, and Rose just laid her first egg on Wednesday 11/12/25! Another egg could be on the way! We hope to see Ron and Rose successfully raise another family of eaglets. In addition, WRDC continues to be supportive of Rita the Bald Eagle who was injured, and now resides at Marathon Wild Bird Center. But, caring for the eagles is only a small fraction of the great work that Wildlife Rescue of Dade County does for wildlife, not only in our area, but also around the world.  WRDC has had many wonderful accomplishments and costly upgrades throughout the year. One item that was upgraded is the digital X-ray system, which is vital to diagnose many issues that affect our furry and feathered friends. They received and treated 4 baby Barn Owls from a wildlife center last year that had been impacted by Hurricane Milton, as well as 3 others that, with the wonderful care they received, were all able to be released into the wild. They've rescued, rehabilitated and released foxes and many other native wildlife. In addition, WRDC has treated far too many birds of prey that ate rats and mice that had been poisoned with horrible Rodenticides. It's a huge problem that continues to kill and sicken many of our local hawks and WRDC works hard to educate people about the consequences of using Rodenticides. Other exciting news is that, coming up this spring, they will be moving everything from their facility to a beautiful 2 acre fenced property with lush native trees and fruit trees located in the Redland area. It will be a huge and costly undertaking and they need the community's support so that they can continue to care for the wildlife that needs them, even as they absorb the costs of moving their personal property. The costs of relocating the rescue facility including the enormous flight cage, animal cages, surgery room, storage container, etc. are separate from the personal expenses and they are higher than expected, and they could use your help to defray those facility moving expenses. All of the work they do is only made possible by volunteers and donations. There is no paid staff, and supporting this vital work can only be done with your help. You have my heartfelt thanks!
