Help conserve, protect, and restore pine rocklands, an imperiled ecosystem in south Florida.

$1,050

raised by 11 people

$1,000 goal

Chuck McCartney (1947-2020) was a South Florida native who grew up in Homestead among the pine rocklands he loved.  He was an avid and skilled amateur botanist and native plant photographer, especially of orchids, and a professional journalist.  (Also an inveterate punster, jokester and loveable curmudgeon.)  I first met Chuck in Navy Wells Pineland Preserve, and last saw him in Rockdale Pineland Preserve.

Chuck freely shared his knowledge and skills, providing photographs for use by many organizations (including for IRC’s online resources), writing or editing countless articles, making presentations on wildflowers and orchids, and leading groups through natural areas - including many pine rocklands, of course.

A gift from Chuck's estate will be used to match your donations up to a total of $1000!

The IRC's fundraising campaign aims to secure monetary support to continue collaboration with other environmental organizations, agencies, private owners who do restoration work within pine rocklands. in various ways, such as resource development and field support.
