Did you know that Florida is the leading gateway for refugees in the United States, with 188,254 landing at the Sunshine State in the last federal fiscal year based on findings from Florida Department of Children and Families? But Miami-Dade, the county with the highest concentration of Florida's refugees, receives a higher income inequality score compared to the national average, and the poverty strikes women the hardest. 

At Refugee Assistance Alliance, we approach refugee resettlement as fuel for building an inclusive workforce with empowered women who feel confident about raising families in South Florida! Thanks to support from our community, we've already helped over 500 refugees this year and discovered deep, data-driven insights on the impact of our programming. For instance, 21 clients obtained a driver's license with assistance from us. Out of the 21, 18 were women, and nearly all of them shared testimonials about the way in which having the capability to drive a car around South Florida has injected them with a new found zest for life! 

Now we have the opportunity to play an even bigger role in steering the future of our clients, and expand our programming in areas like food security against the backdrop of cuts in SNAP coverage.
