Llena una maleta de futuro - A bag full of future

Cada cubano que ha llegado a Estados Unidos trajo consigo una maleta. Pudo ser grande o pequeña, traída en avión, arrastrada por la selva o navegando; pero esa maleta cargó más que pertenencias. Los recuerdos de lo que fuimos, los sueños de lo que podría ser y el peso de un viaje lleno de esperanza. Para nosotros cada maleta ha sido una historia, un comienzo y un desafío.

En Mas Voces Foundation estamos armando una maleta. Nuestra “maleta” es un servicio de información especialmente diseñado para los más de 900 mil cubanos y cubanas que han recién llegado en los últimos 4 años a los Estados Unidos. 

Los vamos a ayudar con contenidos y consejos de cómo navegar el sistema legal y sus regulaciones, evitar errores financieros, encontrar empleo, acceder a servicios de salud, educación, entretenimiento y cultura, ayudas de comida; además de conocer la historia de nuestra comunidad, los hitos de los cubanoamericanos que nos antecedieron, entre otros muchos temas.

Queremos dar las herramientas y conocimientos que necesitan nuestros hermanas y hermanos para ser parte activa y resiliente de su nuevo entorno, así como nosotros recibimos ayuda cuando llegamos. 

Con tu apoyo podremos tener una creadora de contenidos equipada con lo necesario para comprender las necesidades de información de nuestra comunidad y desarrollar los contenidos que las satisfagan. Además, dispondremos de recursos para formar a jóvenes periodistas emigrados con el conocimiento de los periodistas que nos antecedieron, para que podamos contar mejor lo que ocurre en la comunidad cubanoamericana.

Every Cuban who has arrived in the United States brought a suitcase with them. It may have been large or small, flown in, dragged through the jungle, or carried across the sea, but that suitcase held more than belongings. It brought memories of who we were, dreams of what could be, and the weight of a journey filled with hope. Every suitcase has been a story, a beginning, and a challenge for us.

At Mas Voces Foundation, we are packing a suitcase of our own. Our “suitcase” is an information service specially designed for the more than 900,000 Cubans who have recently arrived in the United States in recent years. We are here to help them with content and advice on navigating the legal system, avoiding financial pitfalls, finding employment, accessing health, education, food assistance, knowing the history and milestones of our community, and much more.

We want to provide our brothers and sisters with the tools and knowledge they need to become active and resilient members of their new community, just as we received help when we arrived.

With your support, we can equip a content creator with the tools needed to understand our community's informational needs and develop content to meet them. Additionally, we will have the resources to train young emigrant journalists with the knowledge passed down by those who came before us, enabling us to tell the story of the Cuban-American community better.
