What The Commodore Trail Means to Me:

An historic five mile trail meandering through our Coconut Grove neighborhoods.   A way to get from here to there, without our cars.

A Trail where we can run, bike, walk, and chat,  it was originally a footpath blazed by Native Americans. Being on the Trail bestows a  feeling of being a part of something much larger than I…

You, dear reader, may have walked, run, biked, or strolled along it with me, with or without a dog, a child, or a stroller.

Perhaps I am part of your weekend running group, as we run breathlessly (me!) or effortlessly (you?)  past Alice Wainwright Park, Vizcaya,  Kennedy Park, and beyond to its terminus at CocoPlum Circle.

Perhaps I am part of your 7 a.m. Walkaholics group, as we walk briskly along the Trail on weekdays.

OR:  this may be your standing invitation to come enjoy it with me for the first time!

Our spirits are lifted, creativity inspired, physical and emotional health improved, friendships enhanced, all while outdoors on the Commodore Trail.

What is The Friends of Commodore Trail?

We are a group of neighbors working together to advocate for short-term (as in, now!) and long-term improvements and maintenance of the Trail.

You may have noticed the pot-holes, muddy areas,  blind corners, cracked concrete, areas lifted by tree roots. Flooding issues  make some areas impassable or dangerously slippery.  Runners stumble, bicyclists tumble over these hazards.

Varying path widths cause issues between pedestrians and bicyclists. Better signage and street markings are needed.

We advocate for improvements to the Trail and protection for  its wonderful Tree Canopy and  the urban wildlife within it by pushing all levels of government to act.

We have made exciting progress for major Trail improvements over the next 5 years. Working with the Cities of Miami and Coral Gables, we have developed a draft master plan to address these issues.

Funds are needed to support this ongoing advocacy work.

Whether you use the Commodore Trail or just want to support me in something I am working hard on, join me by helping support the Friends of Commodore Trail.
