Hi friends,
I'm raising $10,000 for Miami Waterkeeper, the organization that I believe is doing the most impactful work to protect Biscayne Bay and Miami's coastal resilience.
If you love Miami's waters - the bay, the beaches, the boating, the beauty - their work matters. Miami Waterkeeper is on the front lines keeping our water clean, our ecosystems healthy, and our coastal community prepared for the future. Read below some of their "Water Wins" this year thanks to the support of donors like you:
Wetlands Victory: Last year, we successfully defended wetlands from harmful development. Now the federal government is trying to roll back these protections, and we’re fighting back again. These same Wetlands mitigate flood waters, filter pollution, and provide vital habitat for wildlife.
Saving Florida's Reef from reckless dredging: Expansion plans at Port Everglades would dredge the ocean floor, smothering millions of endangered corals and destroying hundreds of acres of reef. We already have a Mega-Port in Port Miami; we don't need another one less than 30 miles away. We’re fighting back with science, legal action, and public pressure.
Protecting Human Health: We’re suing the EPA for failing to update decades-old pollution rules that allow dozens of toxic chemicals into Florida’s waters. Together with Waterkeepers Florida and the Environmental Defense Alliance, we’re enforcing stronger protections so everyone can swim, drink, and fish safely.
Cave Crayfish Lawsuit: Deep in the Biscayne Aquifer lives the rare Miami Cave Crayfish. Rising seas, pollution, and over-pumping threaten this species and the aquifer itself. We’re suing to secure Endangered Species Act protections, which also safeguards Miami’s drinking water.
Thank you so much for supporting something that means a great deal to me.
