DJ Swanky's Fundraiser for WDNA 88.9FM

WDNA 88.9 FM is a community radio station that represents the culture and community of South Florida on the airwaves.

When you tune in to WDNA, you are guaranteed to hear local voices like mine. I first got my start in radio as a college DJ, first at WTUL 91.5 FM in New Orleans, and then as an undergraduate and law student at WVUM 90.5 FM at the University of Miami. I started volunteering at WDNA about a decade ago, helping with on-air pitching during The Sunday Time Warp created by Mark Hayes and occasionally subbing as host. When Mark moved away in 2017, I took the helm of The Sunday Time Warp and have been hosting weekly as DJ Swanky ever since. Last year, I was elected to join the Board of Trustees of WDNA. I am dedicated to ensuring the future of community radio in Miami, particularly since the tragic loss of our long time general manager, Maggie Pelleya, earlier this year.

In case you don't already know, WDNA highlights iconic, contemporary, independent music and artists from Jazz to Blues, Afro-Caribbean, South American, Brazilian, world music and eclectic sounds. In the WDNA Jazz Gallery, the station hosts monthly concerts and performance space for local students.

I'm proud to be a listener and supporter of my community radio station. It's a rare gift to have this type of station anywhere in 2023, especially in south Florida.
