OUR ORGANIZATION
Dade County Street Response (DCSR) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization committed to serving the most disenfranchised communities in Miami-Date County. Our organization started in 2017 with Stop the Beed workshops in areas with high incidence of gun violence. In 2018, a Disaster Relief Team was started with the mission of responding to low-income communities before, during, and after environmental crises. Then, in 2020 (during the pandemic), DCSR partnered with the Mami Street Medicine (MSM) program to expand services with a longitudinal outreach clinic. MSM serves people experiencing unsheltered homelessness directly with healthcare and social services throughout the year. Since then, we have since expanded DCSR’s services by opening a free urgent care clinic, Doctors Within Borders. Additionally, DCSR has opened its programming to educate medical professionals at UM/Jackson about the unique needs and circumstances of our patients. Our programs all work together in deep coalition and have remained committed to serving our community and improving the lives of our patients.
Together, our teams are able to offer free medical care, case management, MedEd and community programs, legal advocacy, and a groundbreaking model for disaster relief teams.
PROGRAMS
Miami Street Medicine: The Miami Street Medicine (MSM) clinic meets our neighbors on the street on their own terms and turf. We offer these “house calls” to build trust, bridge gaps between existing healthcare services, transition patients into housing & a primary-care relationship, educate & counsel, and deliver other high-quality healthcare services free of charge.
Doctors within Borders Urgent Care Clinic: The clinic offers free health screenings and essential medical treatments in addition to a surprisingly robust range of services such as women's health, imaging and lab work, and vaccinations. This site also also serves as a teaching site for our medical students and residents, and becomes a community relief hub during times of disaster.
Disaster Relief Team: We operate with a coalition of several local organizations that provide emergency services under the the community emergency operations center (CEOC). The CEOC brings community leaders from each neighborhood who have trained to serve as point people for critical information and resource allocation. Our Disaster Relief Team is the medical arm of the CEOC. We have mobilized 100s medical students and doctors to supply critical medications, hospital triage, wound care, CPR, and many other medical needs.
Advocacy Team: DCSR advocates for housing as a human right, with a focus on how racial inequity are fundamental aspects driving health, housing, and climate change related disparities.
