Lúcia Leão for O, Miami

O, Miami builds community around the power of poetry. Through collaborations, projects, events, and publications, O, Miami creates a platform for amplifying Miamians, investing in a new shared narrative of the city and a more equitable picture of its future.

O, Miami is more than the Poetry Festival in April, Poetry Month. They work throughout the year, bringing free poetry instruction in four languages to Miami’s multilingual student population, especially in underserved neighborhoods. 

Their Greenhouse program supports Miami’s young adults by offering creative experiential, community-oriented learning, mentorship, and supported professional development.  They also partner with other communities, such as the city of Boca Raton, where I live, in projects that connect history and landscape in poetic ways, engaging people of all ages.

As a transplant from Rio de Janeiro and as a writer, I know how important it is to learn the poetry of a place and feel anchored to be able to become more active in the paisagem. O, Miami offers numerous and creative opportunities for that.  I simply love what they do!
