Slow Food Miami is a non-profit, 100% volunteer organization. Our local members are passionate about good food, supporting local growers, producers, fishers and artisan food & beverage makers that celebrate Miami's diverse food culture. By acting locally, we are helping to build a world where the food we eat is good for us, good for farmers and workers, and good for the planet.

Slow Food Miami focuses on education through our Edible School Garden grant program. Your donation on Give Miami Day will directly grow our school garden program. Our aim is to expand the garden program to as many grade-levels as possible, in as many schools as possible.

Slow Food Miami gardens span all socio-economic areas of Miami-Dade, but our greatest impact has been in introducing healthful eating to children and families in areas where food deserts are common and fast food prevails. It’s a joy to see students get their hands dirty, grow their own food, and make healthy choices because of their newfound knowledge and pride.

Mission

Slow Food envisions a world in which all people can access and enjoy food that is good for them, good for those who grow it and good for the planet.

Over thirty years ago, a large group of Italians gathered in Rome for a protest. Why? A fast food franchise was opening at the base of the iconic Spanish Steps. Instead of throwing rocks and yelling, the activists brought in a big bowl of penne pasta and shared it with the crowd that gathered, chanting:

>>We don’t want fast food. We want Slow Food!<<

That gathering was the birth of the Slow Food movement. Today, we are in over 160 countries, with over 100 chapters in the United States. Slow Food Miami was established in 2009.

Join the Slow Food movement for good, clean and fair food for all.
