Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade

Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade is a housing and community revitalization nonprofit committed to building a safer and healthier future for local low-income communities. We believe that everyone deserves a safe and comfortable place to call home. Unfortunately, many individuals and families in South Florida are living in homes that are deteriorating and unsafe due to financial constraints or unforeseen circumstances. That's where we step in.

Our organization is dedicated to providing critical housing repairs to those in need throughout Miami-Dade County. Our team works tirelessly to ensure that families and individuals can live in homes that are not only structurally sound but also conducive to their well-being and safety. Through our efforts, we strive to create a positive and lasting impact on the lives of those we serve. This year, we have received hundreds of applications from homeowners in need, and many more calls.

However, we cannot do this important work alone. We rely on the generosity and support of compassionate individuals like you who share our vision of creating thriving communities. Today, we are kindly requesting your assistance. Your generous donation will directly contribute to our critical housing repair projects, enabling us to provide essential repairs such as roof replacements, plumbing and electrical repairs, accessibility modifications, and much more.  Our programs:

1.      Safe at Home

This program is specifically designed to address the hazards that impact the safety, health, and accessibility of homes owned by low-income families. Through a comprehensive 25 Safe and Healthy Housing Priorities checklist, we create a scope of work unique to each home. All assessments and rehabs are offered free of charge. Common home repairs and modifications include plumbing and electrical work, drywall replacements, ADA bathroom conversions, new flooring, HVAC repairs/replacements, and kitchen renovations.

2.      Veterans at Home

This program was created to fill the gaps in modifications and repair services that retired and active service men and women struggle to meet. Veterans at Home provides no-cost preventive home modifications to veterans and their families to improve safety and accessibility, increase independence, and facilitate aging-in-place.

3.      Disaster [Re]Pairs and [Re]Siliency

Low-income communities often find themselves disproportionately impacted by severe natural disasters. This disparity arises from their aging and less resilient infrastructure, which leaves them particularly vulnerable to the devastating effects of powerful winds and flooding. The combination of outdated housing stock and the financial constraints that prevent lower-income families from making necessary improvements places underserved communities at a higher risk, highlighting the urgent need for equitable disaster preparedness and support measures.

In these neighborhoods, families often find themselves without the essential resources to safeguard their homes or secure insurance, leaving evacuation as the sole recourse for ensuring their safety during a hurricane.  Adding to the challenge, many low-income homeowners lack adequate infrastructure even before the storm, rendering them ineligible for federal funding post-disaster. 

Our [Re]Pairs and [Re]Siliency initiative reaches out to families in underserved and under-resourced communities, offering disaster mitigation, preparedness, response, and sustainable recovery. Under this program, we carry out essential tasks like tree pruning ahead of hurricane seasons, as well as the installation of new roofs and hurricane-impact windows and doors. These efforts have led to a significant outcome: previously uninsured households now have the opportunity to obtain coverage, guaranteeing enduring security for their well-being and property.

 4.      Building a Healthy Neighborhood

The Building a Healthy Neighborhood program is a partnership between Rebuilding Together, volunteers, neighbors, local leaders, and grassroots organizations to revitalize communities with safe, affordable, accessible homes and thriving shared spaces. We make a minimum of a three-year commitment to a target neighborhood and coordinate with partners to revitalize homes, community spaces, nonprofit facilities, and small businesses.

Four communities are currently served under our BAHN program. We are about to enter our sixth year in Coconut Grove, our fourth year in Florida City and we just started a multi-year commitment to Homestead and Liberty City.
