Join Our Vision to Make Miami a Meeting Place for Photography
This Give Miami Day, we invite our community to join our vision to make Miami a meeting place for photography by supporting WOPHA, a unique cultural institution that uplifts women and non-binary photographers and ensures a lasting space for the photographic arts in our city.
Your gift supports WOPHA’s next chapter at Green Space Miami (September 2025 to December 2026), where we will transform the venue into a polyfunctional, dynamic hub for exhibitions, research, and public engagement. The gallery will feature historical and contemporary photography, space for workshops, lectures, and community programs, and a specialized public library dedicated to research and education.
Among our 2026 exhibition highlights is the first U.S. presentation of Julia Chambà López (1919–2003), the first Peruvian woman photographer of Quechua Indigenous descent. Co-curated by Aldeide Delgado and inaugural WOPHA Research Fellow Claudia Holgado, this exhibition presents more than 100 previously unseen photographs and brings Chambà López’s work into dialogue with contemporary Peruvian artists based in South Florida. The show bridges historical and contemporary narratives, offering new perspectives on Andean identity, gender, and cultural memory.
We are also proud to present a feminist intervention into the archive of Bunny Yeager (1929–2014), the pioneering Miami-based photographer and visual artist who transformed fashion and erotic photography through her self-portraits and collaborations with Bettie Page. This exhibition reexamines Yeager’s legacy through a feminist lens and enters into conversation with the work of contemporary artist Naomi Fisher.
In 2026, we will also launch Exposures, a new residency program supporting two South Florida–based lens-based artists in undertaking a culturally immersive residency abroad. This initiative is designed to connect artists with new networks and contexts at major international photography events during a pivotal stage in their careers. The inaugural edition will take place in Arles, France, in conjunction with Les Rencontres d'Arles, one of the world’s leading photography festivals.
Through our exhibitions, courses, residencies, and fellowships, WOPHA will continue to advance a feminist and decolonial perspective on photography while fostering dialogue across communities and generations. Our programs highlight both established and emerging voices, connecting Miami to an international network of artists, scholars, and cultural institutions.
By contributing to WOPHA on Give Miami Day, you help build a foundation for the organization’s continued growth and global impact, ensuring that Miami is recognized not only as a destination for art, but as a beacon for the photographic arts grounded in equity, creativity, and collaboration.
Our mission is to document and highlight the contributions of women photographers to modern and contemporary art in order to rewrite the artistic canon and provoke social change. Women Photographers International Archive (WOPHA) researches, promotes, supports, and educates on the role of those who identify as women and non-binary in photography. Having begun as a dynamic database showcasing the unique stories of women-identified Cuban photographers, WOPHA has expanded its geographic scope to include photographers around the globe.
