For more than 70 years, the Women’s Cancer Association of the University of Miami (WCA) has been a driving force in the fight against cancer. Founded in 1959, WCA is a volunteer-powered nonprofit committed to advancing life-saving cancer research and supporting patients and families receiving care at the University of Miami’s Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Through decades of community engagement, signature fundraising events, philanthropic partnerships, and year-round operations, WCA has raised millions of dollars to strengthen cancer care across South Florida. With two active chapters and hundreds of dedicated volunteers, our impact continues to grow each year.

WCA provides significant annual grants to support innovative research projects. These funds help accelerate discoveries in prevention, early diagnosis, leading-edge treatments, and long-term survivorship, benefiting patients across all cancer types, adults and children alike.

WCA also provides funding for patient-assistance programs at Sylvester. These resources help reduce the emotional and financial strain of cancer treatment by providing transportation assistance, lodging for out-of-town patients, meal support, comfort items, and emergency help for families in crisis.

The Bargain Box, established in 1960, is WCA’s nonprofit thrift shop and one of the longest continually operating charity stores in Miami. Staffed entirely by volunteers, The Bargain Box converts donated goods into critical funding for cancer research and patient care. For more than six decades, it has served as a major revenue source for WCA, a community hub for sustainable shopping, and a symbol of our organization’s commitment to service.

WCA is a 100% volunteer-led organization with no paid staff. Nearly every dollar raised goes directly to research, patient programs, and community support.

From galas and community events to The Bargain Box and grassroots efforts, WCA has built a generational legacy of compassion, leadership, and commitment to ending cancer. Your support fuels discoveries, strengthens families, and helps create a future where cancer is preventable, treatable, and survivable for all.
