Third Horizon: Elevating Caribbean Cinema for a Liberated Future
Third Horizon is a visionary network of artists, storytellers, and filmmakers dedicated to the radical possibilities of cinema. We believe the Caribbean is the gateway to the world.
By examining the Caribbean, which functions as a bellwether for the health of the larger ecosystem, audiences can access the entire world.
Our foundation is built on the belief that storytelling is not merely a pastime but a lifeline. Third Horizon operates with a mission to develop, produce, and exhibit films and programs that amplify the Caribbean and its diaspora. It makes crucial space for stories of the Black, Brown, Indigenous, and Global South; narratives often left out of the mainstream media, yet brimming with joy, resistance, and complexity.
This work is particularly crucial in Miami, a city that was built by Caribbean people and possesses a distinct Caribbean identity unlike any other in the United States.
What We Do: Cinema that Remembers, Resists, and Inspires
Your donation supports:
The Third Horizon Film Festival (THFF): Our flagship annual event celebrates the best new and heritage cinema from the Caribbean, its diaspora, and other Global South spaces. Recognized twice by MovieMaker Magazine as one of the “25 Coolest Film Festivals in the World”, THFF showcases films that are formally audacious and politically aware, unafraid to speak truth to power. Beyond screenings, attendees experience mind-and-body-liberating social events, insightful panel discussions, and rigorously curated short film programs. The organization also remains committed to presenting heritage works of Caribbean cinema, such as the retrospective on Caribbean Activist Cinema focused on labor and workers' rights this past year.
Anansi TV: This online curated collection of films and distribution hub extends Third Horizon’s curatorial work into the digital landscape, ensuring Caribbean stories can be accessed year-round. It functions as a space that centers memory, culture, and resistance. Anansi TV also offers licensing access, allowing powerful stories to be examined, studied, and shared in classrooms and institutions worldwide.
Third Horizon Forward: Third Horizon Forward is an initiative created for filmmakers working out of Miami who trace their lineage to the Caribbean, to interrogate and explore the culture, character, spirit, people, and legacy of the region through film. Through this program, we support short films with an authentic, enduring and vital connection to the region Third Horizon calls home.
Envisioning the Future: Joy as Liberation
Giving to Third Horizon means championing a more equitable, liberated world, informed by the complexities of the past. Third Horizon makes space for a safe, liberated world that is joyous, electric, rebellious, rooted.
Help us secure a future where these vital stories live on and liberation is celebrated. Donate today to ensure the next chapter of Third Horizon.
