The Melissa Institute is dedicated to preventing violence by promoting research-based solutions that keep our homes, schools, and communities safe. The Institute fulfills this mission through research, education, community support, and consultation.
For over 30 years, The Melissa Institute has worked to prevent violence and promote mental well-being in homes, schools, and communities. Founded in memory of Melissa Aptman, the Institute has become a nationally and internationally recognized resource, translating the latest research into practical strategies that help people prevent bullying and intimate partner violence, defuse anger, resolve conflict, build resilience, and foster healthy relationships.
Guided by our internationally renowned Scientific Board, we bring state-of-the-art research directly to the people who can put it into action. Through conferences, programs, consultations, trainings, and educational resources, we equip parents, educators, mental health professionals, community leaders, and young people with evidence-based tools to create meaningful, lasting change. More than 55,000 people and organizations in over 125 countries have benefited from our work, and our expertise has helped inform initiatives throughout Miami-Dade, including Miami-Dade County Public Schools and the Miami-Dade Mayor’s Office. Most importantly, our resources are available free of charge, ensuring that cost is never a barrier to knowledge that can help make our communities safer and healthier.
As we look forward to the next 30 years, we are committed to expanding our mission, extending our reach, and deepening our impact, bringing proven violence-prevention and mental-health resources to even more children, families, schools, professionals, and communities. But we cannot do it without the support and generosity of donors like you.
This Give Miami Day, help us build the next 30 years of impact. Your gift keeps our programs and resources free and puts evidence-based tools into the hands of people who can use them to prevent violence, strengthen resilience, and change lives. Invest in prevention. Invest in stronger communities. Give to The Melissa Institute today.
We are funded solely through the generous contributions of donors like you. Thank you!
