"The Melissa Institute is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization committed to violence prevention and treatment through research, education, and community support. It was established in memory of Melissa Aptman, the year after her murder on May 5, 1995."

The Melissa Institute works diligently to create safer healthy homes, schools, and communities by developing programs for violence prevention and improved mental health. This mission is the basis of every training, conference, program, and consultation we provide. Today, the Institute is a primary source of research-based safety education and mental health treatment strategies in South Florida and beyond. We offer innovative courses on the debilitating effects of trauma and how to bolster resilience. We equip parents as well as school, juvenile justice, and mental health personnel with the tools to reduce intimate partner violence, prevent bullying, diffuse anger, resolve conflict, and promote healing and healthy relationships. Our internationally renowned scientific board members share their latest state-of-the-art research knowledge so that we can continue to be a leader in accomplishing our mission. Their input has earned the Melissa Institute a well-deserved reputation for excellence!
