PAFP Inc exists to offer pet owners peace of mind, and pets guaranteed security, no matter what.

The Paw and Feather Plan Inc (PAFP) initiated to give pet owners a safe, loving, reliable option for including pets in life and death plans.

~Some pet owners have family members or friends that 'might' take in their pets in the event of death or incapacitation.  Others don't have this sense of security (although if it's not in writing, it's not secure).

According to pet-loving estate planning attorneys, all pet owners should include their pets in life and death documents, with provisions, and there should be a 3-tier system of listed caregivers in place.

Cats 🐈 are typically more challenging to place, so including cats in death plans is even more essential for their long-term security.

Until the idea of 'Pets in Planning' really catches on, we #keepcalmandrescueon. -We rescue at-risk pets from a few different high-intake shelters.  We are a rescue partner of Miami Dade Animal Services, Louisville Metro Animal Services, and Bullitt Co. Animal Control, and I, Jessica, the founder, have a background in shelter work, which led to the idea for this niche-based rescue service.

Any support you're willing and able to offer this rescue during 2026's Give MIAMI Day will be greatly appreciated.  This is a small rescue with a BIG mission, vision and idea, and we need you to help it grow and thrive.

The most common response I get from people that I mention PAFP to is, 'wow, I never knew something like that existed,' or after a brief pensative pause they'll say, 'that is such a good idea. And you that's funny because I knew someone...' and they'll go into a story about a person they knew of that died and had several pets without a plan, or how their neighbor ended up with his dog following an owner's death, or something of that nature- this nature- the nature of this rescue.

Eight years into PAFP's existence we're still working to get the word out to loving pet owners about this service.  To do that effectively takes funds, funds we simply don't have-  perhaps three to four times a year I print more business cards, promotional postcards or brochures to leave at vet and attorney offices, but the rescue unfortunately isn't funded to run a massive P.R. campaign or anything of that nature.  -I've even submitted a story to AARP... there's only so much I can do as one person 💇that 1.) had this entrepreneurial idea born of a love for animals of all kinds, and a desire to make a big impact in the animal welfare system for pets and people alike 2.) initiated this rescue first as an LLC in 2018, then transistioned to a 501c3 in 2020, all on my own (good thing I enjoy completing complex paperwork), and 3.) has taken in and found homes for nearly 300 pets in eight years (we have a few great foster families!), as PAFP (92% of those pets came to us from shelters or owner surrenders in hard times, and not through the pets in planning model that PAFP founded).

And worth mentioning, when you create a pet trust, you are creating and supporting a mini thriving economy within you and your pet's community.  We've had the privilege of managing one pet trust for the past 3+ years, and I'm consistently amazed, humbled and so proud of how many people and small businesses that pet trust supports, be it the local vet office we use, the lawn maintenance men, the roof repair man, the amazing cleaning helper, and our live in pet caregivers and property caretakers get to live free of charge in exchange for caring for these amazing, fun, loving, funny pets!  It's a win-win-win model: for the pets whose owner passed away, the live in caregivers, and the community at large.  So, you see, when you create a pet trust that names PAFP as trustee or animal care manager, you're becoming part of something so much bigger than what most people imagine.  It's very impactful.  All of this being said, let it not be confused that 'the rescue's made or wealthy' because we manage a pet trust.  PAFP receives a fair, modest $215/month stipend for our work, and way down the road once all pets have passed on in their due time (God willing that's many years from now), the rescue will receive an additional provision.

In the meantime, let's grow this provenly-successful rescue model together, Miami.  🍇💚 💥
