PATCHES PPEC

PATCHES is a not for profit nursing center where disadvantaged children with extraordinary medical conditions are given nursing care, therapies, education and nutrition, to heal, grow and develop to their full potential. PATCHES is open 5 days a week, 12 hours a day for 75 children birth -21.

Children are medically referred to PATCHES with conditions that include: Epilepsy, cardiac issues, genetic disorders, pre and post transplant and surgery, cerebral palsy, hydrocephalus to name a few. Each child is offered a menu of therapies - occupational, physical, speech and respiratory therapy by professional therapist allowing all the children's therapeutic needs to be met under one roof. For many parents, PATCHES is the bridge of support that allows them to continue to put food on the table with the peace of mind that their child's medical needs are being met. For parents of children with medically complex illness, the journey is oftentimes overwhelming and life altering. For single, working or unemployed parents, PATCHES is an oasis of comprehensive support, guiding them in the management of their children's disorders, co-ordinating with their physicians and providing transportation to the center and home daily and to out of reach hospital appointments.
No child is left behind at PATCHES- especially children with complex illness who cannot be in a classroom!
PATCHES believes that all children have the potential to be lawyers, doctors or scientists and no opportunity is denied! Many children come limited by the emotional stress of coping with long- term, often isolating illness. In an enriching environment, a teacher and an aide, teach to the children's needs and strengths, and help them master their early learning milestones. The children at PATCHES are never defined by their illness, but are instilled with confidence to develop, grow and live life to the fullest. 98% of children at PATCHES transition to their normal peer environment.
