South Florida Youth Symphony, Inc.

Serving students and families of South Florida, nationally and internationally since 1964

For six decades, the South Florida Youth Symphony (SFYS) has stood as one of the oldest and most respected classical music training organizations for young people in the United States — with a special commitment to underserved students in northern Miami-Dade communities.

SFYS is proud to be:

An active member of the League of American Orchestras’ Youth Orchestra Division
A home for over 280 students annually, offering 5 training classes in strings, winds, and keyboard, plus three progressive orchestra levels
A community pillar, presenting concerts from August through July each year

Our coaches include SFYS alumni, professional musicians, and dedicated educators, and for 28 years we’ve hosted a beloved Summer Music Camp, ensuring a safe and inspiring space for hundreds of children.

SFYS has proudly represented South Florida on both national and international stages:

* Three performances at Carnegie Hall

Top awards at national music festivals in Washington, New York, and the Bahamas
Superior international recognition at the 30th International Youth and Music Festival in Vienna, Austria
A cultural exchange tour in Nicaragua (2006)
Gold Award for Performance at the Prague Bohemian Music Festival (2019)
A Suncoast Emmy Award for our Virtual Concert during the COVID pandemic
A three-city concert tour in Italy (2023)
A side-by-side performance with FUNSINCOPA Youth Symphony in Panama (2024)

🎻 The Journey Ahead: Prague 2026

In March 2026, SFYS has been invited back to Prague International Youth Music Festival, a return to the city where our young musicians last earned Gold.

For many of our students — most from low-income households — this is more than a trip; it is the opportunity of a lifetime. Each student needs $3,400 to attend, covering tuition, travel, and accommodations. Additionally, we must fund the rental of large instruments in Prague, including cellos, basses, tubas, and percussion.

💙 Your support is critical. Donations can be designated to a specific student or shared among the orchestra. Every contribution ensures that no child is left behind due to financial hardship.

Together, we can honor 60 years of SFYS history while creating new memories on the world stage in Prague.

Mission

MISSION STATEMENT: South Florida Youth Symphony, Inc.

*To establish, maintain and promote a youth symphony orchestra program in south Florida comprised of youths 3 to 23 years of age;

*To empower all students ages 3-23 without regard to race, color, creed, disabilities or orientation, with the skills necessary for success in the music field, developing the total child with positive life skills

*To encourage public participation and sponsorship in the youth orchestra program, and render to the community a quality cultural and educational service.
