          Every Woman Deserves a Safe Place to Begin Again

Shozanio’s Place Inc. was born from one woman’s decision to turn her own life experience into hope and opportunity for others.

After experiencing incarceration and facing the challenges that come with rebuilding a life after the criminal legal system, Founder and Executive Director Shozanio Horton understood how difficult it can be for a woman to return home without stable housing, reliable support, transportation, employment, identification, or someone willing to help her navigate the next step.

Shozanio knew that women needed more than judgment. They needed safety. They needed encouragement. They needed resources. Most importantly, they needed someone who understood that a person’s past should not determine the rest of her life.

That understanding became the foundation of Shozanio’s Place Inc.

For many women returning home after incarceration, the hardest part is not simply coming home. It is finding somewhere safe to go, reconnecting with family, securing employment, attending required appointments, accessing healthcare, and managing the everyday barriers that can make rebuilding feel impossible.

Without stable housing, even a woman who is motivated to change can quickly become overwhelmed. Housing instability can interfere with employment, supervision requirements, healthcare, family reunification, education, and personal recovery.

Shozanio’s Place Inc. was created to help women face those barriers with dignity, structure, accountability, and support.

Our mission is to provide safe housing, support, and resources to justice-impacted women as they rebuild their lives, regain stability, and work toward self-sufficiency.

Through our Safe Housing & Community Reentry Program, women receive more than a place to sleep. They receive a supportive environment where they can establish goals, access resources, prepare for employment, strengthen their independence, and begin creating a healthier future.

Our services include:

• Safe, stable housing
• Case management and individualized goal planning
• Employment preparation and workforce readiness
• Transportation assistance
• Cell phones to maintain communication with employers, case managers, healthcare providers, probation or parole officers, and family members
• Food, clothing, hygiene supplies, and household necessities
• Identification and driver’s license assistance
• Life-skills coaching and mentorship
• Healthcare and counseling referrals
• Housing navigation and community resource connections

Our safe housing home provides space for up to six women, with support available for up to two years based on individual needs and program participation. We also support women who are not living in the home by connecting them with employment assistance, transportation, healthcare, housing resources, referrals, and other community services.

Since 2021, Shozanio’s Place has served more than 300 women.

What makes Shozanio’s Place different is that our work is rooted in lived experience, compassion, and practical support. We understand that successful reentry requires more than advice. Women need a safe place to live. They need access to food, clothing, transportation, communication, identification, employment, healthcare, and people who will continue encouraging them while they work through their challenges.

Founder Shozanio Horton did not create Shozanio’s Place because she believed women needed to be rescued. She created it because she believes women deserve the opportunity, resources, and support to rebuild their own lives.
