The South Florida Chamber Ensemble is a non-profit organization dedicated to harnessing the power of music and other arts for education, mental health and wellbeing.  We run four main programs every year: Adult Concert Series, iLUMA (Inter-generational Literacy Using Music and Art), Diversity in Science, and the International Musical Instrument Petting Zoo.

Our Adult Concert Series is called Emoticoncert and each of the 12 concerts focus on an emotion.   Each program contains a diverse set of composers including African American, living American, female, LGBT, indigenous or otherwise marginalized composers.

Our literacy program iLUMA contains stories from around the world.  Each program includes traditional music from the culture performed in traditional instruments along with the orchestral instruments. Each iLUMA program comes with a dance break where participants learn and perform a traditional dance from the culture. This is a residency program where we track improvement in fine motor skills and reading comprehension with the goal of having participants score highest in the final session.

Diversity in Science promotes math and science to traditionally marginalized groups like girls, BIPOC, and people with disabilities. This program promotes science and math through fun experiments and promotes literacy through math word problems.

The International Musical Instrument Petting Zoo is a collection of over 25 musical instruments from around the world.  Participants can play each instrument.  Instruments are grouped by continent and you can see where each instrument comes from on a map.  Participants can make their own musical instrument from recycled objects at the Creation Station .

We are honored to have been selected as one of the 12 organizations funded by the Miami Foundation Catalyst Grant.  Our project is the creation of 4 Bilingual operas over the next two years, starting with a a soccer opera in partnership with North Hialeah Elementary School 4th graders.
