Rivas Perdomo Family Foundation was founded by an artistic family in 2005, and we are proud to celebrate our 20th anniversary this year!
We believe Miami is uniquely positioned to pioneer cultural preservation and climate resilience efforts that empower our socially vulnerable populations with equitable opportunities to create happy, healthy, and resilient neighborhoods.
Miami is a unique land filled with diversity both cultural and biological. Art, in its many forms, can help us lead to profoundly transformative, optimistic, and participatory change for our communities and natural environment.
We leverage arts and culture as tools for social change in three ways: Art-based Climate Literacy and Action, Youth Orchestra for Social Impact, and Multi-Cultural Family Festivals.
Art-based Climate Literacy and Action
Over the next few months, we plan to launch Miami Nature Guardians, a climate literacy and action program serving socially vulnerable youth and families. This program is comprised of art-based bilingual (English/Spanish) environmental education and family field trips, where participating families and volunteers can support local environmental conservation projects such as native tree planting, cleanups, and species monitoring. Art helps children and teens enhance their creativity and problem-solving skills as they imagine their own climate solutions, and develop their sense of stewardship by directly contributing to local climate resilience projects.
Youth Orchestra for Social Impact
In addition, we plan to initiate a youth orchestra to empower vulnerable students and families to envision a better future and avoid harmful habits through their musical creativity. Through the shared experience of playing in an ensemble, we believe students can develop their skills as team players advocating for and creating a more just world. Moreover, the ensemble will commission at least two new works per year from rising local composers who are passionate about Miami's international culture and are committed to using music to express ideas and enthusiasm for positive social change.
The ensemble will be conducted inspired by the principles of the Alexander Technique, inviting students to approach their creativity and advocacy holistically and encouraging them to care for their own wellbeing and that of their peers as they promote a brighter future for everyone.
Multi-Cultural Family Festivals
Rivas Perdomo Family Foundation also celebrates Latino/Hispanic culture through family-friendly festivals representing a variety of countries throughout Latin America, whose performances celebrate the arts, cultures, and heritages of Miami-Dade County's diverse community. The Foundation has hosted 4 Multicultural Festivals, which have entertained hundreds of families with folk dances, global trivia, spoken word, and musical performances. The Foundation aims to continue bringing this cultural enrichment to the community, engaging local folk artists, musicians, and dancers to celebrate Miami's rich cultural diversity.
Rivas Perdomo Family Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to empowering socially vulnerable Miami-Dade youth and families, leveraging arts and culture as tools for social change and climate action.
