This year, Ponce de Leon Middle School proudly celebrates 100 years of shaping minds, building character, and inspiring generations of Explorers. For a century, our school has stood as a cornerstone in the community. A place where families, educators, and neighbors come together to nurture learning and lifelong friendships.
At Ponce de Leon Middle School, we believe that it truly takes a village to nurture and guide our Explorers. We are fortunate to have a campus surrounded by natural beauty tall trees, shaded walkways, and vibrant outdoor spaces that reflect the warmth of our school community.
Thanks to the generosity of our “village”, families, teachers, alumni, and community partners, we’ve been able to transform key areas of our campus. From replacing aging picnic tables to beautifying outdoor study areas, every project has created spaces where our students can learn, laugh, and grow together.
This year, our focus is on sustainability, safety, and student connection, as we continue to invest in the future of our Explorers and our school community.
Solar Panel Lighting for the Outdoor Walkway
Our mornings begin early and our campus stays full of life long after the school day ends. Installing solar-powered lights along our outdoor walkways will make these paths safer for students and staff during before- and after-school programs, while also modeling environmental responsibility.
By choosing solar energy, we’re teaching our students that small changes can make a big difference. This project lights the way, both literally and figuratively, toward a safer, greener, and more sustainable campus.
Peace Garden Tables
Our Peace Garden has become a favorite gathering space a place where students can read, talk, reflect, or simply enjoy a quiet moment between classes. By adding new circular tables with umbrellas, we’ll give more students the chance to connect outdoors in a calm, welcoming space.
These tables represent more than seating; they’re a symbol of togetherness. Whether students use them to collaborate on projects, share lunch with friends, or enjoy a mindfulness moment, they remind us that learning and community flourish when we take time to slow down and connect.
Garden Arch
The rear garden is one of Ponce’s hidden gems and we plan to give it new life with a decorative arch that adds beauty, charm, and pride. The arch will serve as a focal point for photos, school events, and celebrations, creating a welcoming gateway that reflects our Explorer spirit.
More than an aesthetic upgrade, this project symbolizes growth and new beginnings. Every student who walks through it will be reminded that they are part of something lasting a community that supports and believes in them.
Student & Centennial Activities
This year marks an extraordinary moment in Ponce history 100 years of educating, inspiring, and empowering students. As we celebrate this Centennial milestone, part of our Give Miami Day funds will support special events and projects honoring our school’s legacy and the generations of Explorers who came before us.
In addition, these funds will sustain student activities throughout the year from leadership programs and cultural celebrations to recognition ceremonies and campus-wide events. These moments strengthen our students’ sense of belonging and make their middle school years memorable.
Together, We Make It Possible
At Ponce, it takes a village, and we are so grateful for ours. Every gift, no matter the amount, helps us continue creating a campus where our Explorers can thrive.
Your generosity lights our walkways, fills our gardens, celebrates our students, and strengthens the spirit of a community that always comes together for its children.
Join us this Give Miami Day 2025 and be part of our village, the one that keeps our Explorers shining bright for the next hundred years and beyond.
The Ponce de Leon Middle School PTSA brings together parents, teachers, students, and community partners to create a supportive and inclusive environment where every Explorer can thrive. Guided by our theme, “It Takes a Village,” we work to enhance student learning, strengthen school spirit, and build connections that make Ponce a safe, vibrant, and inspiring place to grow.
