$15,000 Goal

THE CHALLENGE: 3 million students applied for college last year. Their #1 concern? How to pay for it. Historically disadvantaged and BIPOC students experience significant gaps in educational access, creating a barrier to socio-economic mobility.

We believe that access changes lives.

IMPACT: Our work has resulted in a 100% college matriculation rate with 98% winning scholarships, totaling over $26 million in scholarships received by underrepresented South Florida youth. Over 95% attribute their Nyah Project resources as critical to their successful college matriculation and personal development.

Our 2022 graduates alone won over $9.1 million in scholarships and were accepted to 53 schools in 22 states.

Additionally, Access Online, our on-demand college admissions strategy and skill-building platform has attracted over 1,600 individual users and 53,000 course enrollments and increased the number of students we serve by 560% during the first two years.

WHO WE SERVE: Over 99% of youth are BIPOC, 90% hail from low- and moderate-income populations, 60% are female, and at least 44% are first generation college students. 90% live in Miami-Dade County and 10% live in Broward County.

OFFERINGS:
1) College + Scholarship Access Coaching: Access Online improves college admissions outcomes.  Our SaaS technology platform leverages the Access Method® validated over 15+ years throughout 35+ on-demand, self-paced coaching lessons that includes interactive exercises and video-based instruction to help students acquire critical competencies that are often missing from standard in-school curriculum. Access Online integrates seamlessly into existing college bound programs or acts as a standalone resource.

2) Training and Tools for College Access Professionals: Our College Access Practitioner (CAP) Community helps college access professionals improve college admissions outcomes for the students they serve. It includes cohort based student licenses to Access Online; premium cohort management features to monitor and measure skill building progress individually and as a group; professional development training, certification, resource library and online community of practice; customized data sets and outcomes reporting.

3) Transformative Leadership Experiences, Locally and Abroad: We increase college acceptance and scholarship success rates through LEAD, a spring leadership intensive, and our Global Youth Leadership Fellowship, a 12 month fellowship program that incorporates international leadership experiences in Africa or Asia, combined with wrap-around college access and career pathway support.

By providing these offerings at no-cost to the students, we have an opportunity to empower underrepresented youth to attend college debt free and help narrow the racial wealth gap.

Mission

MISSION: Nyah Project provides training and tech based tools to remove the practical and systemic barriers to the life-changing opportunities that higher education brings.

VISION: To support more than 100,000 underrepresented students through their college admissions journey and unlock more than $1 billion in scholarships.

HISTORY: In 2014, Leigh-Ann Buchanan founded Nyah Project to clear the pathway into college for underrepresented students.

Our initial signature program, the Global Youth Leadership Fellowship, gave our Fellows an experience to write about and help them stand out in college & scholarship applications. Since then, our primary outcomes have expanded to training the next generation of purposeful leaders from underrepresented backgrounds through local and international leadership development experiences, whilst democratizing access to colleges + scholarships through strategy coaching via our Access methodology.
