Founded in 1989, Miami Light Project (MLP) is a not-for-profit cultural organization, which commissions and presents artists from all over the world and throughout Miami. We support the vanguard in contemporary performance - dance, music, theater and multimedia artists who are internationally recognized for risk-taking innovation, technical virtuosity and thought-provoking content. Our programmatic vision has led the way in establishing Miami as an internationally recognized center for art and culture, with a vibrant locally based artistic community. Miami Light Project's artistic programs focus on issues of relevance to our community within the context of an evolving global field of art and culture. Our activities include:
Contemporary Performance Series - an annual series featuring the vanguard in contemporary performance from around the world.
Global Cuba Fest - an internationally recognized festival featuring the leading musicians from Cuba and the Cuban Diaspora. It is a celebration of Cuba's unparalleled musical heritage.
Here & Now - the only program of its kind in South Florida. Here & Now was established to commission and produce new work by Miami-based performing artists.
AIR at The Light Box - an extended residency program designed to provide mid-career artists the opportunity to realize their full artistic vision in a creative environment.
ScreenDance Miami - an annual festival highlighting both local and international choreographers and filmmakers who work at the intersection of dance and video art-emergent concepts, and new media.
Technical Fellowship Program - an intensive training program for aspiring theater technicians living in Miami. It includes workshops and a paid internship for Fellows working as crew members during our season.
Youth and Community Engagement Program - we support artists to conduct workshops, master classes and facilitate dialogue for youth and community members.
Miami Light Project's mission is to commission and present live performances by today's leading contemporary dance, music and theater artists from around the world; to support the development of emerging and established performing artists living in Miami; and to cultivate passionate and engaged audiences that reflect the diverse cultural make-up of South Florida. Miami Light Project is an art and culture forum to explore the issues that define contemporary society.
