About Us

The Family Learning Partnership is a non-profit organization founded in 2002. Our mission is to enrich the lives of children and families across Florida by forging collaborative partnerships with local community agencies and institutions. We are dedicated to bolstering child and family well-being with a particular focus on child welfare, literacy education and research. Our goal is to achieve improved health outcomes for children and families through literacy initiatives and parent skill-building.

 Initiatives

The Miami-Dade Family Learning Partnership, Inc. serves as the Reach Out and Read Florida affiliate, collaborating with 193 pediatric sites across the state. Reach Out and Read gives young children a foundation for success by incorporating books into pediatric care and encouraging families to read aloud together. Reach Out and Read is an evidence-based approach to promoting early childhood development within primary care, endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics and supported by the American Academy of Family Physicians. ROR is a public health intervention that builds resilience and strengthens relationships in families and communities.

We support families of CARE Court (Re-Entry), an Initiative of Florida's Federal Southern District Court, and we provide Legal Up!, a program working with at-risk risk youth, which received numerous awards including the 2007 R. Ray Goode Award and the Great Cities Summit Award. The Florida Bar Journal and The Miami Herald have both recognized the program, and its Employment Module was selected to be part of a national demonstration project by the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Our parenting program provides classes for families of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers with resources, support and assistance they need to have successful health outcomes. It utilizes The Incredible Years, an evidence-based parenting curriculum from the University of Washington and focuses on strengthening parenting competencies and fostering parent involvement in children's school experiences, to promote children's academic, social and emotional skills.

Long Term Strategy

To implement a comprehensive long-term strategy that fosters child literacy, education, and community development ultimately leading to the betterment of children and families in Florida. Expand operations to all 67 counties in the State of Florida, with the goal of serving the 4.2 million children that currently reside in the State (2022, US Census). Strengthen the foundation to effectively serve the projected 5.4 million children who will be residing in Florida by 2050.
