MCT is a proven training ground for the stars of the future. At this time there are 14 alumni over the past 13 years who have been cast in Broadway shows. The director of Miami Childrens, Tim Fath, received a Tony Award nomination in 2019 for Excellence in Theater Education. In addition, to performers we also have composers, costume designers, lighting and sound designers, stage managers, directors, musicians and dancers all working in their chosen field, with many more waiting in "the wings" at the top theater programs in the nation, including FSU, Yale, UM, Michigan, Boston Conservatory, NYU, Carnegie Mellon, Syracuse, UNCSA and many more.
MCT was founded in 1996, with the idea of starting a young persons' theater to expose the world of theatrical arts to as many children as possible. Our policy has always been that no child would never be denied participation due to financial needs. Now 26 years later that dream still lives on with uncompromising inclusionary policies and scholarship practices. MCT is one of the largest and most productive young people's theater in the nation with over 15 shows produced annually.
The mission of the Miami Children's Theater is to deliver a formidable arts education program to young people in the form of a dynamic, comprehensive conservatory that fosters creativity, intellectual development, and artistic growth in all aspects of theater arts, including acting, voice and dance. At the core of this mission is making young people an integral part of high-level professional productions, which we create from inception in a collaborative environment. It is the Miami Children's Theater's mandate to accomplish this mission on a community-wide basis, by creating a richer atmosphere through inclusion, and with the priority that no child will be denied access to our programs because of sociological or economic obstacles.
