By some estimates, 2.5 Million children across America will have no place to call home this year, no bed of their own in the richest county in the world. Most are newborns to the age of 6, a time when they are most vulnerable and the potential for neural development is at its fastest. At this tender age, children in homeless shelters are already experiencing food insecurity, hunger, depression, anxiety, and other threats to their wellbeing and future success. They are an invisible, silent casualty of a nationwide epidemic of homelessness, caused by systemic, global and economic forces beyond their control, stagnant wages, rising rental costs and the lack of an adequate safety net for their basic needs.

Lotus House has sheltered over 9,000 women and children since inception. We are the largest women's shelter in the nation, with the capacity to shelter over 500 women, youth and children nightly, nearly half of whom are children struggling to find safety. Your generosity provides life changing sanctuary and supportive services that help them heal, learn, grow and thrive on every level. So much more than a meal, a bed and a shower, Lotus House provides holistic, empowering and uplifting supportive services that put children first. With evidence-based child and family therapies, counseling, parenting classes, resource coordination, access to medical and mental healthcare, after school tutoring, help with homework and other educational supports, job readiness training, employment assistance, holistic arts and activities, and furnishings for move-out, Lotus House is truly setting the standard on a national level for best practices and innovation. In comprehensive, multi-faceted programming and support services, together, we help women, youth and children emerge from the shadows, give voice to their dreams, and build the foundation for safer, healthier, brighter futures.

To support our mission, we also advocate on behalf of homeless women, youth and children to raise awareness of their special needs; inspire innovative, holistic solutions that truly break the cycle of childhood abuse, domestic violence and homelessness; and advance research and enlightened social policies for greater understanding, social inclusion and resources for homeless women and children.
