On April 22, 2009 the City of Miami's Historic Preservation Office notified the County Archeologist of the findings of human bones on a construction site. It was reported that the sight was an unknown abandoned Black Cemetery. The Lemon City Cemetery Community Corporation was organized to stop the development of the project, give respect to the persons buried in the Lemon City Cemetery and to celebrate the forgotten history, heritage, and culture of the Black community.

The Lemon City Cemetery was an essential part of the cultural landscape of early Miami, a period of pioneers who created lived for themselves against tremendous odds. The Lemon City Cemetery is significant because it's associated with one of Miami's oldest communities. It serves to illustrate the Jim Crow laws enacted in Miami throughout the United States.

We celebrate History. We bring attention to the Lemon City Cemetery located at 485 N.W. 71st Street in Miami, FL. We respect Lemon City History. We organize and sponsor educational events and musical events. We give recognition to female achievers in our community. We are multi-cultural, multi-racial and inter-generational. Donors allow us to reach more people.
