KIPP Miami is Growing!

In 2018, 168 students walked into our classrooms in our founding year, supported by families who wanted more for their children. Today, we educate more than 1,300 students, whose academic growth has outpaced that of surrounding schools in the neighborhoods we serve.

We plan to educate nearly 3,000 students over the next 5 years, including adding an innovative high school at our existing Miami Dade College campus. Together, we will build first-class schools and create innovative programs that rewrite the story of our students — and the city of Miami. Through this ambitious initiative, we will:

  • More than double the number of students served from 1,300 to 3,000
  • Broaden our geographical footprint to a second campus with a new elementary school and a new middle school in Liberty City, a second underserved community in Miami
  • Open the first KIPP Miami Technical High School that will offer students access to college credits, through a partnership with Miami-Dade College, and meaningful career exposure opportunities.
  • Expand the highly regarded KIPP Forward program to not only guide graduating 8th graders to top high schools but also to create pathways to postsecondary education for KIPP alumni as they finish high school
  • Develop highly skilled educators by offering hands-on training, mentorship, and professional development that prepare teachers and principals to lead classrooms and schools effectively
  • Attract and retain qualified educators in this competitive candidate market, by implementing targeted recruitment strategies, providing professional development opportunities, and offering competitive compensation packages.

Our Results

  • Extraordinary Progress: Over the past five years, our students have demonstrated impressive academic growth on state assessments, gaining 26 percentage points in ELA and 30 points in math.
  • Milestone Achievements: We have reduced the number of students behind by more than one grade level in reading by 32% and math by 37%.

  • Large Learning Gains: This is especially true for our students in the bottom quartile, who are farthest behind. We are proud of this because this is what our school is about: closing gaps for students who deserve access to a world-class education.

Giving Activity

Mission

KIPP Miami seeks to create and sustain high-achieving and inspiring community schools that battle inequity by empowering students to develop the knowledge, skills, character strengths, and habits to thrive in college and beyond, shape their futures, and positively impact the world.

Founded in August 2018, KIPP Miami is part of the KIPP (Knowledge is Power Program) national non-profit network of free, public, open-enrollment college-preparatory charter schools educating more than 120,000 elementary, middle, and high school students across the country. We have a 25-year track record of preparing students in educationally underserved communities for success in college and life. We currently operate two schools educating more than 1,300 children in K- 8th grade. At KIPP, teachers, students, families, and our partners are all united around the same goal -a choice-filled life. Your generosity supports our programming, our facilities, and our vision to transform education equity in Miami.
