Hermanos de la Calle (Brothers of the Streets) is a grass root nonprofit organization born in Miami 8 years ago. It started as a group of families providing warm meals and nice conversations to homeless individuals in downtown and Overtown Miami, and has transformed in what we are today. With the same essence and philosophy, with love and compassion as our pillars, HDLC is now serving hundreds of homeless individuals through several programs and projects, connecting them with every possible resource available in Miami for this population. Hermanos de la Calle helps homeless individuals utilize resources available to satisfy their needs. Reconnection with family, shelter, housing opportunities and treatment are some of the services our organization provides through its programs. For 8 years, Hermanos de la Calle has been reaching out to this vulnerable and needy population, being able to serve and help almost 1500 individuals, including migrant families that have recently arrived in Miami from the border without a place to go. These groups of adults and children are literally homeless, calling from bus stations, airports, police stations to ask for help. They are in need of every essential necessity: food, clothing, shelter, personal care as well as medical and psychological attention. Hermanos de la Calle has been able to help over 150 families (750 people) from December 2021 through today, attending to their basic needs. Our organization arranges hotel stays for 2 to 3 weeks per family until they are established in Miami or coordinate travel to a safe destination where a community can receive them. In addition, support services are provided to ensure the physical and emotional wellbeing of all members of the family, adults and children, and help them connect with every resource available to start a new life. Health checks, school readiness and enrollment, and legal assistance referrals are some examples. It is not new to see migrant populations coming to Miami exiting their countries due to economic and political repression. What is NEW is to see COMPLETE FAMILIES with children of all ages, coming from Cuba, Venezuela, Colombia, Nicaragua, Haiti, Honduras, and all Central and South America, walking to our borders, taking risks on their way in search of opportunities and of a better life! And here they are! And we got that special call to help them! Please consider helping Hermanos de la Calle support migrant families! This is a group that has no where to go and are homeless in Miami and need the help of the community. They need our helping hand, just a little push to be able to have a roof over their heads.
Fundraising GOAL: $100,000. This is the budget needed to help house 10 migrant families (approximately 90 people), providing them with the resources to cover moving-in costs, 4 months of rent, food and other household needs. With your help, we can make possible for them to establish themselves here in Miami and start again as productive members of our community.
PLEASE CONSIDER MAKING A DONATION TO HERMANOS DE LA CALLE!!! TOGETHER, WE CAN BE A COMMUNITY THAT STANDS TOGETHER TO WELCOME THESE MIGRANT FAMILIES THAT ARE IN SEARCH OF A MORE DIGNIFYING AND FULLFILLING LIFE, THAT COME FROM SUFFERING AND INJUSTICE AND REALLY WANT TO MOVE FOWARD AND BE PRODUCTIVE MEMBERS OF THE SOCIETY.
The mission of FHC is to offer help and support to homeless individuals, as well as to create awareness and motivate local communities and families to volunteer in different ways to help the homeless gain back their dignity and their place in society.
