Mission
Gene Spotlight is a non-profit (501c3) which will provide medical research grants to find better treatments and cures for some of the 7,000 rare genetic disorders including lysosomal storage diseases, uncommon cancers, and other orphan diseases affecting 25 million Americans.
Only about 5% of the 7,000 known rare diseases currently have treatments of any kind. With the low number of potential patients for each drug, many potential cures are not brought to market due to the inability to recuperate the costs associated with drug development. Furthermore, when treatments actually do occur, their cost is usually exorbitant.
Gene Spotlight will be investing in multiple pathways to find final cures for some of these conditions, to give a voice to these diseases, and be an advocate to help make them more readily available to the public. We want to give people suffering from these diseases the best chance of receiving treatment as soon as possible.
