With your support, Friends of Miami Animals Foundation can move quickly where Miami-Dade needs us most—preventing shelter intake, keeping pets with their people, improving the shelter system, and delivering lifesaving care.
What Your Gift Makes Possible
Saving pets in crisis: We partner with local veterinarians so owned pets with treatable conditions can get urgent care. Your support helps families afford critical treatment, preventing unnecessary surrender or euthanasia.
Easing shelter pressure: When homeless pets arrive with medical needs the county shelter can’t handle, our vet partners step in. With donor funding, these animals get the care they need to become healthy, adoptable pets—freeing up space and improving outcomes.
Keeping families together: We’ve distributed tens of thousands of pounds of pet food and essential supplies to families experiencing food insecurity and to low-income households through pet food banks. Often, a bag of food is all that stands between a loved pet and the shelter.
Accelerating adoptions: In 2025, we launched our Virtual Foster Program. More than 87 community advocates now promote pets online, highlighting shelter animals and helping reduce overcrowding while amplifying adoption voices across Miami-Dade.
Strengthening systems and enforcement: We coordinate multi-agency law-enforcement trainings across Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach to standardize animal-cruelty response in dogfighting, cockfighting, and equine and farm-animal cases. We are also helping draft an MOU between the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office and Animal Services to clarify roles, improve evidence handling, expand data-sharing, and support joint training—high-impact improvements at minimal cost.
Shaping a better shelter facility: We’ve invested in national shelter-design expertise for the new Homestead facility to ensure humane, best-practice care—not just more kennels.
Even with this progress, need is rising: Veterinary shortages, housing restrictions, overpopulation, owner surrenders, rising veterinary costs, and economic strain are all converging now.
We have a plan to meet this moment—but we can’t do it without you.
Please donate today to keep pets with their families, reduce suffering, and build a more humane future for animals in Miami-Dade.
Our mission is to save and improve the lives of homeless pets in Miami Dade County through education, advocacy, financial support and increased awareness.
